Atlanta

  • There is some graffiti which I see very often. Every time I see this particular graffiti, I am puzzled. It reads "Free Bids". I wonder, who is Bids? How shall I do my part to Free him? Alternatively, where might I obtain my free bid? What shall I have bid upon? Are bids not always free? See, confusing.
  • Simply by going straight where I usually turn, I have discovered a new running path. This path goes through Rottenwood Creek park.
  • I am pretty sure that the name of this park doesn't mean "go ahead and dump all your trash here", although clearly many passers-by disagree.
  • Also sighted: dead rat.

Colorado, Turkey Trot

  • Santa and a Santa-dog. Santa-dog was mean to the other dogs.
  • A group of teens dressed in ridiculous neon. A pack of past me's! In the first half-mile, a neon dude sprinted past me, then had to stop to dramatically adjust a knee-sock. He did not pass me again.
  • Unattended keg of free beer. WOOOO Turkey Trot!

Colorado

  • Free wrench! Rusty. It's on the hill by the farm.
  • Cold and windy as all get-out.
  • Still vastly preferable to the danged South.

Atlanta dammit

Some college dudes menaced me! Dude barreled towards me and did a football-style fakeout move, whilst other dudes laughed. Here are some things I would like to say to dudes. DUDES:
  • You will be slow like me in a few short years
  • You are not even that fast (ba-zing!)
  • Imagine if someone menaced your mother or sister in such a manner.
  • It is always good to be nice. True story!
There! This never-to-be-read-by-anyone-but-me blog surely fixes things right up.

post-flood atlanta

  • I was out of town during the flood 2 weeks ago
  • But I heard that there were some....sewage....issues
  • Specifically that there is a possibility that the...poo...can just "get on you" even if you do not get in the river or whatever
  • Even now, 2 weeks later
  • So all during my run I felt like...scared of the...molecules.
  • They were touching me, I could feel them.

Buford, Georgia

  • Ran a 5k. My boyfriend, who has not run a step in a year, beat me by 40 seconds. Curse my female skeleton!
  • However, I was the ladies champ! The secret is to only enter very small, obscure races.

West Virginia, Nashville

  • Well firstly I ain't been running much of late. I thought this here blog might motive me, but not yet
  • In West Virginia I felt so gleeful with the cool weather that I made train-chugga motions with my arms
  • Then I saw a bunch of young bucks (dude deers are bucks, yes?) and I made finger-guns at them, then I felt guilty, and then hypocritical because while I am quite the carnivore, I could never do the killin' personally
  • I walked around the park in Nashville today observing the runners--you see a lot more that way. The main thing I noticed is that many runners do not wear proper footwear! That is sad for them, for good shoes can improve your running life mightily
  • Also, many running ladies in the Vanderbilt area appear to be associated with the Greeks. Shocking!

atlanta

  • Diego and the comb are still there, and i still did not pick them up
  • My mom would have picked them up
  • It has been raining, but i do not think "things i see while doing an exercise video" will be very interesting
  • because THIS is so interesting

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

atlanta

  • a brown comb in good condition
  • blue piece of paper reading "Diego Grimaldo", located next to the bus stop
  • lots of people. y'all didn't run in the summer? that was probably a good call.
  • why didn't i pick up the comb? who doesn't need a good comb.

terrible

  • the spectre of my own mortality, laughing at my weak ass as i walked back home
  • related: i wanted to puke the rest of the day

Atlanta 4-evah

  • An owl! Not fake. In a tree. It looked at me. RIGHT AT ME.
  • A very lovely turtle. Black and yellow. Scared of me. LETS BE FRIENDS TURTLE.
  • A couple of folks out for a walk in the jungle-y, muddy part of the trail. The lady was wearing high heels and struggling in the mud. What is the story there? They did not plan to hike? Aw, I'm sorry lady, I hope you come back and have fun with appropriate footwear

atlanta

  • a dude was scared of one of those snakes. says i, "don't worry! they don't bite!" says he, "ok, i'm trusting you"
  • the rest of the run, i worry what if the snake bit the dude!

Sydney

  • Lots of dorks running with cameras, just like me
  • Many people running with backpacks. Why? It is a city! What do you have in there?

Monday, June 15, 2009

atlanta

  • many bunches of unidentifiable animal fur....i bet it originated from a fancy dog, from the looks of it
  • one of my favorite trails, closed, completely covered in logs so it was REALLY closed...guess i haven't run there in awhile
  • the detour was awesome!
  • visible humidity? not cute, atlanta

atlanta

  • dead frog, this is not too remarkable except that froggy was hollowed out. i think the takeaway from this sighting is that frog innards are delish, but the skin is not
  • it is getting entirely too hot in atlanta.

Saturday, June 6, 2009

west virginia, then atlanta

  • well, i wasn't running at the time, but i sure was once i saw the bear
  • back in atlanta now, and it is.....hot, very

west virginia

entirely too many tourists while i ran today...don't get me wrong, tourists are excellent! but i am sorry if i spoiled their vacation with my huffing and puffing. how embarrassing.

West Virginia

i maintain that it is more taxing to run here (or in any small town), because of the requirement to wave at every motorist and person in their yard. more taxing, but more friendly!

carpe diem, runners

  • Today I saw many things of the recent past, like people running with discmans and huge headphones, or power walking while holding tiny weights. Nashville is very cool and hip, so it must be rad.
  • The quarter was gone! Dang. I ran all the way back there.

Monday, May 18, 2009

Nashville

  • Not running, but: Lady totally flummoxed about squirrel in car. Action taken by both of us: open doors, yell at squirrel. By squirrel: Escape!
  • Running: A quarter. Did not pick it up! Too lazy.

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Atlanta

  • Two ladies running in skirts! One the one hand...why? On the other hand, they were running pretty fast so go ahead, girlfriend!
  • Snakes and poo bags, poo bags and snakes. There's nothing new under the sun, sigh.

Monday, May 11, 2009

i can't keep writing the same title, can i?

  • Many bags of dog doo, alongside the trail. This is not new, I see this every day actually. This is a thing that confuses me. I have not actually read the rules, but I can't imagine that this practice is smiled upon. How is it helpful? It it someone's job to pick up the poo-bags? Clearly someone is doing it.
  • And a question. Is this better or worse than tying the poo-bag to the dog's collar and making him carry it? I have also seen this.
  • Clearly, no action is taken by me regarding any of this.
  • Finally, this just in-cake for breakfast will not make you run very quickly. Stop the presses!

other things i have recently seen while running

West Virginia:
  • A really big dang snappin' turtle, coated in two inches of mud. Action taken (me): poked lightly with stick. Reaction (turtle): exasperated glance.
  • Smaller, cute box turtle. Action: moved to side of trail. Reaction: retreat further into shell.
  • Skeleton w/ some flesh, of uncertain origin. Possum? Muskrat? Cat? Action taken: increase pace. Reaction: impossible
Atlanta:
  • Large, large snake. Action: increase pace, wonder whether to alert other trail patrons. Reaction: slither

things i have recently seen while running

  • 1 Large hawk, flying very low
  • 2 small turtles, one forest, one land
  • 1 small salamander, of uncertain aliveness. evidence for: not mangled. evidence against: unresponsive to big person all up in grill.
  • Many sets of matching dogs. there was a BOGO on dogs?
