West Virginia

i maintain that it is more taxing to run here (or in any small town), because of the requirement to wave at every motorist and person in their yard. more taxing, but more friendly!

carpe diem, runners

  • Today I saw many things of the recent past, like people running with discmans and huge headphones, or power walking while holding tiny weights. Nashville is very cool and hip, so it must be rad.
  • The quarter was gone! Dang. I ran all the way back there.

Nashville

  • Not running, but: Lady totally flummoxed about squirrel in car. Action taken by both of us: open doors, yell at squirrel. By squirrel: Escape!
  • Running: A quarter. Did not pick it up! Too lazy.

Atlanta

  • Two ladies running in skirts! One the one hand...why? On the other hand, they were running pretty fast so go ahead, girlfriend!
  • Snakes and poo bags, poo bags and snakes. There's nothing new under the sun, sigh.

i can't keep writing the same title, can i?

  • Many bags of dog doo, alongside the trail. This is not new, I see this every day actually. This is a thing that confuses me. I have not actually read the rules, but I can't imagine that this practice is smiled upon. How is it helpful? It it someone's job to pick up the poo-bags? Clearly someone is doing it.
  • And a question. Is this better or worse than tying the poo-bag to the dog's collar and making him carry it? I have also seen this.
  • Clearly, no action is taken by me regarding any of this.
  • Finally, this just in-cake for breakfast will not make you run very quickly. Stop the presses!

other things i have recently seen while running

West Virginia:
  • A really big dang snappin' turtle, coated in two inches of mud. Action taken (me): poked lightly with stick. Reaction (turtle): exasperated glance.
  • Smaller, cute box turtle. Action: moved to side of trail. Reaction: retreat further into shell.
  • Skeleton w/ some flesh, of uncertain origin. Possum? Muskrat? Cat? Action taken: increase pace. Reaction: impossible
Atlanta:
  • Large, large snake. Action: increase pace, wonder whether to alert other trail patrons. Reaction: slither
